<description>Two years ago I undertook a personal project creating an open source textbook with an imbedded Learning Management System (LMS) applicable to any discipline, but specifically for my use in mathematics and statistics.

My decision to invest so much personal time and treasure came about after more than a decade of using LMS systems from text book publishers. In spite of their initial student engagement in class lessons, homework assignments, quizzes, and tests, they were lacking in specific areas important to achieving successful outcomes, specifically in the college and university setting. I attempted to work through these areas with the publishers but, in spite of their enthusiasm for my ideas and for unknown various reasons, none of the improvements were adopted by them.

I am pleased to say that “My Math Text” online website addresses all their short-comings and much, much more—it is the complete package built upon their successes and many innovative and unique features found nowhere else. During my 26 years mathematics experience teaching classroom, online and hybrid courses I have developed, cultivated, and honed the best of the best ideas for it.

Version 1.0, will be ready for beta testing on a limited basis in my Summer, 2012 classes. After all necessary adjustments to the program have been made, it will be made available to instructors of all disciplines. I am so excited to share my work with my colleagues and other proponents of Open Educational Resources and online and hybrid teaching and believe you will be as excited to use in it the future as we together, change the direction of teaching in the 21st century.

I welcome the opportunity of &quot;showing off&quot; this &quot;labor of love&quot; in the ShiftED 2012 competition.

Thank you for kindly considering my project.
