Social medial is all around us in our daily lives. Twitter, Facebook, Google+, Pinterest, and Instagram are all rich sources of information, but we also hear about how these sources of information have been used in negative ways by students in schools. This course is designed to provide you with a set of tools and guidelines to help you use Social Media to enhance your professional skills and to model appropriate use for your students.  By the end of the course you will be able to use Social Media to connect with educators around the world, communicate and collaborate with other classrooms and your community.

Photoshop I Davis Sat. 11/2 9 am – 3 pm 30 0.5
Designed for the educator, hobbyist, novice graphic designer, this course introduces students to Photoshop techniques. This class covers the following Photoshop techniques: Digital Darkroom – color and contrast enhancement; Collage – selecting objects in the photo, moving them, superimposing them into other objects; Layers – editing bits and pieces of the photo in isolation; Desktop Publishing/Layout – working with text and images together; Special Effects – layer styles, drop shadows, filters and fine art techniques; Painting and Drawing – brushes, pencils, colors, pattern swatches, strokes, fills, gradient fills.

Learn simple illustration techniques for print and web projects. Adobe Illustrator makes professional quality illustration and design so easy! In this class you will learn how to create simple and complex designs with shapes, special effects, custom pattern, brush styles, textures, and more! You will make full use of typography and brush styles to create your own original artwork, graphic designs and layouts.
Using Tech to Assess Common Core Caringella Sat. 11/2 9 am – 3 pm 30 0.5
Participants will examine technology’s role in the Common Core State Standards, and gain an understanding of how technology is infused throughout the Common Core Standards across subject areas and grade levels. They will learn how students will use technology to process information, communicate and collaborate, express ideas, produce and publish writing, and demonstrate critical understandings.
Multimedia to Support Common Core Standards Caringella Sat. 11/23 9 am – 3 pm 30 0.5
Participants will learn how multimedia tools can be used to support the Common Core State Standards by allowing students to construct knowledge and present it in digital environments. A variety of multimedia tools will be examined. Participants will also learn how students can build a multimedia project that demonstrates their learning.

Do you dread public speaking? Being an effective presenter is critical for anyone who aspires to be in a leadership position. In fact, presentations can be career defining. This class will introduce you to valuable presentation media tools such as PowerPoint or Prezi (a free tool) and provide hands-on experience. Studies show that audiences retain 5% of what they hear from lecture compared to 90% when media, brainstorming and collaboration techniques are used. Power Point and Prezi now support many interactive capabilities that allow you to speak, engage and even collaborate with your audience. You will not only learn how to use these tools, but you will learn how to improve your speaking skills, demonstrate with multimedia, run collaboration sessions, and create rich media.

This course is for educators, students, and professionals who want to design and implement electronic portfolios. After examining best practices, using an appropriate online tool, participants will design and post a portfolio plan and implement one entry.

This course is designed for educators (K-14) and includes hands-on experiences that demonstrate the effective integration of technologies and 21st century skills for teaching and learning with any standards based curriculum. Emphasis is given to developing effective student-centered projects or activities using appropriate educational technologies.
Internet Ethics and Child Safety Ullah 10/14-11/29 ONLINE 2
Concerned about cyberbullying, keeping students safe on the Internet, and teaching kids to be ethical, responsible users of technology? This course addresses these issues and will guide you to develop pro-active solutions to help young people become informed, responsible, safe users of technology. By the end of this course the student will be able to:

  1. Analyze Acceptable Use Plans and determine how best to help your students and their parents understand their District’s Acceptable Use Plan
  2. Be Knowledgeable of current copyright and fair use laws and know how this affects classroom use of technology
  3. Protect your students from Internet Dangers
  4. Understand Child Safety and the Internet
  5. Determine the Validity of Internet Resources
  6. Develop strategies to protect your students while using the Internet
Photoshop Overview Davis 10/14-11/15 ONLINE 1
Designed for the educator, hobbyist, novice graphic designers, and photographers alike, this course introduces students to the Photoshop and to image editing techniques. Learn to fix underexposed and overexposed damaged pictures, adjust colors in images, combine disparate images into one composite and much more. Achieve a solid understanding of Photoshop fundamentals and an ability to freely composite and enhance any image you can imagine. No previous experience with Adobe Photoshop is required.NOTE: The Photoshop software (version CS3 or higher) is required for this course – Software can be ordered through Foothill College bookstore or downloaded as a free trial version (1 month trial) from the Adobe website. You can also use the software for free at the KCI Multimedia Lab.
