About the CIO Program

The Krause Center for Innovation’s Chief Innovation Officer (CIO) program is an exciting, new addition to our professional development menu. Created in partnership with CUE and CEPTA, this leadership opportunity is designed to meet the needs of educators seeking to explore educational change and elevate their professional practice. Schools and districts have an

urgent mandate to prepare students for a rapidly evolving world, and CIOs can play a pivotal role guiding the educational and technological planning processes for their districts. CIOs also play an integral part in developing and maintaining of 21st century learning environments. The CIO program helps prepare educators for these roles.

Today’s CIOs must develop  multi-faceted skills, in which best practices in teaching and learning are foundational. CIO program participants will develop a deep understanding of educational innovation related to curriculum and instruction, technology infrastructure, strategic planning, and leadership. Graduates of the program will come away fully prepared to lead and empower teams to modernize their schools and districts.

Program Objectives

Participants will be able to:

  • Develop a knowledge base of innovative best practices in education
  • Join a network of peers focused on educational innovation and improvement
  • Guide districts strategic planning processes based on instructional and technology needs
  • Enhance their leadership skills in order to effectively lead a variety of teams throughout their districts

In this unique program, participants will engage in collaborative learning activities with a cohort, develop practical technology skills, and  think deeply about educational innovation. Participants will have ready access to the expertise and resources of the program partner organizations (KCI, CEPTA and CUE) as they develop the skills and knowledge necessary to be a successful technology leader in schools and districts.


The CIO Program is designed for educators with 5+ years of teaching experience. Ideal candidates have a demonstrated track record of integrating technology into instruction via their own classroom teaching or work as an administrator, technology coordinator, instructional, coach, or Teacher on Special Assignment (TOSA).

CIO Program Cost

The CIO program tuition is $2,200, which includes 27 quarter units of coursework from Foothill College. Flexible payment options are available.
