Creating a Positive Mindset with Mathematics
This program is a 3-day (18 hour) program for multi-disciplinary educators in grades 3-8. The backbone of the program draws from KCI’s experience with the EMPowered program that focused on the Eight Mathematical Practices and computer and web technologies that support engagement and motivation of students in math.
We at KCI wanted to offer a program to bring together educators from grades 3-6 because they have similar instructional practices due to their multi-disciplinary nature. Common Core continues to be at the heart of math instruction today; however, this program will also look to the future as well and include the most current research and best practices around inclusion and equity in math instruction.
Topics and activities include:
- Teamwork and collaboration
- Multiple methods of problem solving
- Communication and justifying reasoning
- Building content and conceptual understanding
- Strategic incorporation of manipulatives and digital tools
Taking this 3 day program is an opportunity for you to see how you might upgrade your current math instruction. These strategies and tasks can enhance any curriculum in order to increase engagement and understanding. This program is intended for educators who have taught math from 1 to 99 years.
