Carla is a 2021-2022 CSTA Equity Fellow. She has been a science and computer science teacher for 23 years for an urban school district. Currently, she as an Albert Einstein Distinguished Educator Fellow. Within this role, she works with Senator Jacky Rosen on creating legislation that focuses on more equitable STEM opportunities for African American and Hispanic girls and women. Carla is proud to be 2022 Ohio District 11 Teacher of the Year and to also become one of the finalists for the 2022 Ohio Teacher of the Year. Because of her work in exposing and creating more STEM opportunities for African American girls, Carla received the 2021 and 2022 NSTA and Shell Urban Science Educator Development Award. She continues to advocate for the integration of computer science in core subjects. She mentors and speaks at events geared towards helping teachers integrate computer science into their instruction and best practices for teaching STEM to African American girls.
