Jiazhen Zhang
Jiazhen has been teaching math in middle and high school for over 20 years. Currently, she teaches 7th and 8th grade math at the San Francisco School, a Pre K through 8th grade school in San Francisco. She also coordinates the middle school math program. Her personal and teaching life have been tremendously impacted by the SKY breathing technique, which she learned in 2007. SKY provides her concrete tools to manage daily stress and negative emotions. It boosts her resilience in the classroom when things don’t go the way she had planned, gives her the patience to really listen to her students, makes room for quietness and mental clarity to design curricula and lessons that turns math anxious students to math confident learners. She became a trained volunteer facilitator of SKY breathing and meditation through the Art of Living Foundation in 2009, and has taught teens and adults in various parts of the country, including UC Berkeley, SFUSD, and the San Francisco School.
