(she/her)

Brooklyn, New York

Dr. Kara Imm is a K-12 teacher educator, based in Brooklyn, who designs and leads on-site professional development and site-based coaching with school communities and districts throughout New York City, across the U. S. and internationally. She teaches graduate coursework at Hunter College (City University of New York), supporting the development of elementary teaching candidates in East Harlem. For over a decade, she has created original courses for K-12 STEM teachers at Math for America (MfA). In her research and writing, Kara is exploring two areas: the role of design thinking in teachers’ work with marginalized students, and the intersection of mathematical modeling, identity development and mathematics-as-storytelling. She is the author and co-author of several articles, chapters and books with and for teachers and loves to collaborate and co-design learning experiences for kids and adults alike.
