A Night to Remember
The Chamber of Commerce hosted the 29th Annual Celebration of Leaders & ATHENA Awards, a night dedicated to recognizing the exceptional individuals and organizations who have made outstanding contributions and provided remarkable service to the community. The event also featured the prestigious ATHENA Leadership Award, celebrating extraordinary efforts in assisting women to achieve professional excellence and leadership.
About Gay Krause
Gay Krause’s journey in education began at Pennsylvania State University, where she earned her Bachelor’s degree. She furthered her studies at the University of Virginia, obtaining a Master’s degree as a psychometrist. Following her academic achievements, Gay moved to the San Francisco Bay Area, where she met her husband and started her distinguished career in the Mountain View/Whisman School District. During her tenure in the district, Gay held various roles, including teacher, middle school counselor, assistant principal, and principal at Graham Middle School and Landels Elementary. Her leadership and dedication to education were further recognized through her participation in the Mountain View Leadership Program. Gay’s visionary leadership led to her recruitment to establish the Krause Center for Innovation at Foothill College, a center dedicated to professional learning for K-12 educators. Under her guidance, KCI has become a beacon of innovation and excellence in education.
A Pillar of the Community
Beyond her work at KCI, Gay Krause actively serves on several non-profit boards, contributing her expertise and passion to various organizations:
- Founder and Chair of the MV/LA/LAH Challenge Team
- Board Member of the YMCA of Silicon Valley
- Board Member of the Foothill DeAnza Community College Foundation
- Secretary/Board Member of Children Now
- Board Member of Project Cornerstone
- Chairperson of the Palo Alto Medical Foundation Community Board
Gay’s husband, Bill Krause, also has an illustrious career, having retired from Hewlett Packard and serving as CEO/Chairman of 3Com.
The 29th Annual Celebration of Leaders & ATHENA Awards was an evening filled with inspiration, recognition, and celebration. Gay was honored alongside other remarkable individuals who have dedicated their lives to making a difference in our community. Gay received a standing ovation from the 300 attendees, a unique and truly honorable moment.
