Multimedia Opportunities at Mt. Pleasant High School

November 23, 2021

The Multimedia Program at Mt. Pleasant High School is one of the jewels of the East Side Union High School District. This four-year program prepares students for college and career by exposing students to a variety of technology and software through which they can demonstrate their knowledge of the pillars of design. The students learn the power of media in creating narratives, dismantling stereotypes and opening the world to new perspectives.

Most importantly, the program gives students a sense of validation, a feeling of pride and personal dignity as their stories and their voices become the central subject of the class.

Mr. Will Cavada, the Multimedia lead teacher, brings the outside world into the classroom by teaching students to use the stories of their own community and to use their own experiences  as the inspiration for the various multimedia projects. He then works tirelessly to showcase the students’ work at different festivals throughout the country and by doing so, takes a piece of the East Side community into the world, and gives a face and a voice to the families we serve.

As a former teacher and principal of Mt. Pleasant High School, I have shared in the pride students and staff feel when our students receive recognition for sharing a piece of them and their story beyond the walls of our school. The Multimedia Program prepares the students for college and career by teaching them needed tech and visual arts skills. Most importantly, the program gives students a sense of validation, a feeling of pride and personal dignity as their stories and their voices become the central subject of the class.
