Beyond the Hype: Demystifying AI for Equitable Teaching
In this 2-hour workshop, we’re going to cut through the AI hype and demystify what AI tools like ChatGPT can actually do. Spoiler alert: It’s not magic or sparkles! You don’t need to be a “prompt engineer” to use AI effectively. The beauty of generative AI is that it’s conversational and accessible to anyone. Together, we’ll work on developing a critical AI mindset—one that helps us understand how to use AI thoughtfully while staying grounded in our values as educators. We’ll explore how AI can help deepen self-reflection, offer new perspectives, and inspire creative ways to engage students. But we won’t shy away from its limitations—understanding what AI can’t or shouldn’t do is just as important as what it can. We’ll approach AI through the lens of design thinking, focusing on empathy and innovation.
