Building Bridges in K-14 Education

November 23, 2021

The Krause Center for Innovation classes are named LINC (Learning in New Media Classes) and are currently part of the Business and Social Science Department of Foothill College, Los Altos Hills, CA.  The KCI began offering professional learning classes focusing on K-12 educators in the year 2000 when we completed the renovation of the former Space Science Museum building. As we have grown our programs to serve 23,000 educators over the 21 years we have expanded our offerings to include 5 state certificate programs.

We began our own version of the current dual-enrollment programs offered to high schools in collaboration with colleges 15 years ago — before there was a formal Dual Enrollment Program offered through Foothill College.  Our goal was, and still is, to help maintain a partnership with Foothill-DeAnza (FHDA) Colleges, enable our high school students to have the opportunity to take college classes while they are still in high school, and help us grow our enrollment opportunities. Leo Florendo, a multimedia instructor at Freestyle Academy in the Mountain View/Los Altos High School District, and Will Cavada, multimedia instructor in the Eastside Union High School District, were our initial dual-enrollment instructors and they have continued to work with us each quarter of the academic year.

Together, our program empowers excited and passionate students to pursue higher education as early as ninth grade.

This has not only cemented higher enrollments at FHDA Colleges, but it also serves as a “proof of concept” that can be replicated throughout the state. We are so grateful for our team members and partnerships that make this opportunity for students possible.
