2020-2021: A Retrospective Take on KCI’s Instructional Impact
September 17, 2021
As we look back on KCI’s impact this past year, we are humbled by the bravery and stewardship of the educators we had the pleasure of working with. As we all learned to cope with feelings of confusion and change on a near-daily basis, we also came together in new ways. That wasn’t all by accident. In fact, when our team looked into the Zoom cameras in August 2020, we agreed that KCI is one institution well-positioned to be of service to hundreds of teachers and thousands of students, and we set out to do just that.
Examining our Goals
While our work with educators included multiple objectives, there are three that appear over and over again.
- Partner with school districts as an integral component of their responsive professional learning plans
- Seek diverse funding sources through unique partnerships and grants to ensure sustainability
- Embrace the attitude of “mindsets over technology” in our instructional design and practice
Each goal proved its complexity in unique ways. Questions we explored included: Who are we best positioned to serve? How can we share our resources in our local communities? How might we amplify our services across the states to target underserved student populations in California and educators who are in high-need of professional learning support?
Where to next?
In the upcoming months, we will unpack each of these goals in more detail with you and share how we see these goals evolving this year. From tailored district professional learning to new California state certifications, from reinvigorated strategic partnerships to the “yes, and…” attitude in classrooms, there’s a lot to explore. Our relationship with the Foothill – DeAnza Community College District continues to present new opportunities for collaboration, and as we all know, we are #bettertogether.
As we launch into our annual fundraising efforts, remember that every dollar we raise impacts students, educators, and caregivers. You matter, and we appreciate you.
